A Blast From the Past!

I was going through some pictures the other day when I ran across some that I really need to share. They are from the 2012 DARS Classic and feature John Lee's NASA Aeroshell scale bird...all 12 C motors worth! Therefore, without a lot more gabbing, here you go!

John with his creation, right before the epic flight!

On the pad, with motors aplenty!

Liftoff! (Yes, they ALL lit!)

Even the coast phase is impressive!

The beginning of a completely planned huge explosion!

Probably my favorite picture...12 ejection charges!

Laundry deployed!

All systems are "GO" for reentry!

An amazingly soft landing.

She even landed upright!

After-flight close up!

All of those amazing motors!
So there you have it! One of the coolest flights of the day, or maybe even ever!

Until next time, fly 'em fast and high!

Wrapping Up a Scale Bird!

About a year ago I got an Estes Little Joe II kit. Of course I haven't even thought about starting it yet, but recently I purchased a little something to get me pushed in the right direction...

My kit....

The purchase!

Detailed instructions

General wrap instructions...
Yep! I got the Accur8 scale wraps! The advantage to the wraps is that they give you details that would be very difficult to model otherwise. They are printed on self-stick vinyl so they are pretty tough and they look great!

They are made and sold by John Pursley, who is both a skilled graphic artist and a noted authority on all things Apollo. In fact, he points out that these wraps model the last round of the Little Joe II, although he's working on earlier rounds. Also rumor has it that Saturn V wraps are in the works!

By the way, he also has some really cool fantasy wraps for Estes kits. Do a search on EBay for "Accur8" and see for yourself!

Until next time, fly 'em fast and high!

Hot Wheels Meets the Jetsons!

Sometimes it's really difficult to come up with things to write about every week. Other times, things just pop up! This week is the second one...

I was getting a couple of things at the local Walmart when I spotted something cool on an end-cap (not even in the toy section!). I found this...

Yep! Hot Wheels has made The Jetsons Car!  Now as cool as this is, it's clear that they fudged a couple of the details...mainly, the wheels. It has them. They did their best to hide them by making them clear, but just like clear plastic fins, you can still see them. Still, it really doesn't detract much from the car.

Apparently this is number 8 out of 10 in the "Screen Time" series. I don't know what the other vehicles are, but they will have to go a ways to be cooler than George's family ride!

And no, I don't think it can be converted to fly.

Until next time, fly 'em fast and high!
